

Peggy Sue Martin Nowak, age 85 of Birmingham, AL passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was very much loved and will be greatly missed. Mrs. Nowak was a kind and generous lady who always put the needs of others before her own. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Mrs. Nowak was born in Mobile, Alabama and was a graduate of Murphy High School in Mobile. She received degrees from David Lipscomb University, University of Colorado, and the University of Alabama where she served in the education field for many years as an administrator and educator. Mrs. Nowak had a love for traveling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johann “Hans” Victor Nowak. They met as students at David Lipscomb University, later married and became missionaries in Germany for over 13 years. She was very fluent in German. Together they served in their mission field throughout Europe and all over the world. Years later she served under the Jimmy Carter Administration as an Education advisor in South America. She had a strong love for animals and supported animal welfare to the fullest. Any memorials or donations could be contributed to the Animal Protection Services, National Geographic World Wildlife, American Humane Society, and ASPCA.
Her greatest love was for her family. She is survived by her four sons, Martin Nowak (Darlene), Clifton Nowak (Linda), John Nowak (Terri), and David Nowak (Laura); Grandchildren, Kelley, March, Johnathon, Lauren, Katy, and Caroline; several great grandchildren; her nieces, Carole Pettus and Diane Griffith; and other extended family members. On Sunday, May 31st, 2020 from 2 pm to 5 pm a memorial service will be held at Ridout's Trussville Chapel where everyone can join in with the celebration of Peggy Sue Nowak’s life and the influences she had with her family, students, and many friends.
