November 12, 1930 – July 8, 2026
Peggy Williams Rogers passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, at the age of 95. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to all those who knew her.
Born Peggy Lois Williams on November 12, 1930, to Ed and Nora Williams, she was the youngest of three children and grew up in the western section of Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated from Ensley High School and later attended Auburn University. In 1950, she married Maurice Rogers, with whom she shared 73 years of marriage.
Peggy was the devoted mother of Marsha Rogers, Ed Rogers (Patti), and Carol Rogers. She was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her endless joy. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, who were an important part of her life.
Peggy had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, greeting family and friends with genuine warmth, a wonderful sense of humor, and a generous heart. She was an exceptional cook, and her famous "Mama meals" (eye of round roast, green beans, cornbread, fresh bread, two desserts, and other "fixins") became treasured family traditions. More than the meals themselves, though, it was the love, laughter, and hospitality shared around her table that everyone will remember.
Her greatest happiness came from being surrounded by those she loved. She treasured family vacations to the beach, enjoyed traveling, looked forward to every Wednesday on the golf course with her ladies’ league, and was an avid card player whose quick wit made her a popular companion around every table.
No season brought Peggy more joy than the holidays. She delighted in bringing her family together and had a special gift for making every holiday and family celebration feel magical. Matching Christmas aprons, lots of presents, and singing around the piano or organ were bound to happen on each occasion.
Her faith guided her throughout her life. She worshiped for many years at Hunter Street Baptist Church and later at Homewood Church of Christ, where she cherished her Sunday School class and formed lifelong friendships. Her grandchildren will always remember sitting beside her in the pew, enjoying a handful of mints and the thrill of receiving a dollar bill to place in the offering plate.
Peggy’s legacy is one of generosity, grace, quiet strength, and unconditional love. She taught her family that life’s simplest moments were its greatest blessings.
Peggy will be laid to rest beside her husband, Maurice, at Elmwood Cemetery, during a private family graveside ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made in Peggy's honor to HEAL United. Donations may be made by visiting https://healunited.org/honoring-peggy-rogers/.
