

Peggy “Peggy Jo” Sanford Tingley, age 96, of Birmingham, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on May 6, 2020. A private graveside family service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on May 8, 2020.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Wellington Barry “Duke” Tingley, Jr.; mother, Maggie Mae Sanford; father, Horace Luke Sanford; and infant son, Barry Luke Tingley.
Survivors include her three daughters, Peggy McCollum (Tuscaloosa); Bari Hodges (Auburn) and Danielle Weaver (Alexander City); seven grandchildren, Christen Ballard (Kevin); Brandy Hodges; Woody Hodges; Bruce Hodges, Jr.; Kimberly Weaver; Wesley Hodges; and Katie Weaver; and four great-grandchildren.
Peggy Jo was an avid bowler and league Secretary/Treasurer until the age of 93. She loved spending time with family and friends, playing Bingo, taking trips to the casino, loving on her dogs throughout the years, and watching sports of all types.
She was known to her family and friends as kind and loving, humorous, and strong-willed. She was a devoted wife, as well as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family, but their faith assures them that she is now reunited with her dear husband and loved ones with the Lord and they will see her again in Heaven.
Honorary pallbearers are Mark Weaver, Betty Bruno, Sara Varnon, Sandy Murphy, Barbara Parker, Jane Timmons, Martha Stanton, Glenda Hardin, Sharee Earl, Pat Smith, Linda Christman, Ann Germain, Beverly Jackson, Andy Oakes, the late Taz McBrayer, and other bowling friends of Vestavia Bowl and Riverview Bowl.
