Penny Guthrie Hughes

HUGHES, PENNY G., went home to be with the Lord on February 28, 2010. She attended Springville High School and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Springville. Known as Miss Penny to friends and co-workers she worked at Blue Cross, Dr Coker MD and R. E. Grills Construction before starting her own business. Penny was loved by all who knew her as a devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She made a difference in the lives of her family and friends through her love of life, and her caring and giving spirit. She is preceded in death by her father Ross O. Guthrie, her son Christopher Farrell England and step-sister Jeannie Gowens. She is survived by her sister Celeste (Jerry) Powell of Ashville and friend Fred Hughes of Birmingham. Also, half-sisters LaVelle Crawford, Dottie Singer, half-brother Alex Guthrie, step-brother Mark Griffis and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Park Tower Employee David Armstrong and also Ricky Watson and his other guards for their support and care of Penny. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday evening March 4, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. at Ridout's Trussville Chapel, the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 P.M. until service time on Thursday.
