Posey L. Holbrook

Posey L. Holbrook, age 92, of Springville, AL passed away on November 9, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Glover Holbrook; daughter, Virginia Mae Holbrook Sherer; parents, James William and Terza Yerby Holbrook; brothers, James William (Bill) Holbrook and John M. Holbrook

He is survived by his daughters, Juanita Holbrook Etheredge (William Archie) of Springville and Linda H. Kramer (John O.) of Warner Robins, GA; grandsons, Jason L. Kramer (Lindsey) of Atlanta, GA , James Michael Sherer Jr. (Mandy) of Pinson, AL and Steven H. Kramer of Alabaster, AL .; great grandson , William Jaye Kramer of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews. Posey grew up in the southside in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended Ramsey High School in Birmingham, Al. Posey joined the United States Navy February 17, 1941 and served on the Flag Ship USS Washington as Radioman, second class and gunner. Then he served on the Flag Ship USS South Dakota. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service. He was very proud to serve in the United States Navy. He worked in the trucking industry in traffic management for over 40 years and retired from Ross Neely Truck Lines. Posey was a member of Huffman Baptist Church in Birmingham, Al and then a member of Reeves Grove Baptist Church in Steele/Ashville, Al.

Posey was a member of the Birmingham Square Dance Callers Association and he and Bess were members of the Birmingham Square Dance Association for over 48 years. Through square dancing they made many lifelong friends.

He was a caller for: The Wheels and Deals Square Dance Club in Birmingham, Al., The Jasper Swinging Squares in Jasper, Al., and the Trussville Squares in Trussville, Al.

Posey was a loving , devoted, husband, father and grandfather. He loved singing in the choir at Reeves Grove Baptist Church and calling for the square dancers anytime, day or night.He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Visitation will be Monday November 14,2016 from 11 AM until service time at 1 PM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
