Ray was a devoted husband, father, and a friend to many.
Born November 5th 1945 in North Charleston SC, Ray moved to Birmingham to attend electronic school, a decision that would shape his life in more ways than one.
It was while walking to work one morning that he met the love of his life, Cynthia Wheeler (Cindy,) sitting on a brick wall outside John Carroll High School and their connection blossomed into a lifelong partnership.
Ray dedicated his career to Western Electric as a Central Office Installer, a job he approached with diligence and pride. He was a skilled craftsman, ensuring reliable communication for countless people. He retired after 30 years of service.
Beyond his work, Ray enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He was an avid metal detectorist, always excited by the prospect of uncovering hidden treasures and pieces of history.
He also found joy in the simple act of walking, appreciating the beauty of the world around him. Ray was a dedicated member of Oakmont Chapel Presbyterian church and Christian Life Sunday school class, where he was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Cynthia Wheeler Jouret (Cindy,) his cherished son, Major Douglass Jouret, and his sister Mrs. Joan Cate (James) of Lawrenceville, Ga.
Ray will be remembered for his kind heart, his dedication to his family, and his unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be Friday, January 3, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 PM to celebrate Ray's life.
