
RAYMOND WILLIAM WOOD, JR., 96, 4th generation upholsterer & final owner of Wood Upholstery in Birmingham, AL, went to be with his Lord on December 22, 2014. Funeral services will be at Ridout's Trussville Chapel on December 26, 2014 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the funeral services, with the burial to follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. He will be laid to rest beside his wife of nearly 50 years, Edna Earl. He was also predeceased by his parents, Barbara Henrietta & Raymond William Wood, Sr. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his current wife, Marion Anderson. He is also survived by his four daughters, who cherished him dearly; Carolyn L. (Randall) Patterson, Linda R. Wood, Beverly W. (Greg) England, Deborah Jo (Greg) Wood; granddaughter, Renee' (Troy) Loyed & great granddaughter, Kaitlyn Loyed. Also, survived by his step daughter, Denise (Duane) Baker & family; granddaughter, Ashley (Randy) Morrison & family; and grandson, Guy (Tammy) Patterson & family. He was a World War II veteran, who served in the United States Air Force. He was an upholsterer for most of his life, and was still upholstering until 2010. Earlier in his life, he enjoyed square dancing and round dancing, serving two terms as President of the Birmingham Square Dance Association. He was a member of Ruhama Baptist Church and later, Eastside Baptist Church. He has been a resident of the V.A. Home in Pell City, AL, since February, 2013. He loved his family, camping at Wind Creek Park in earlier years, traveling in his later years, and his little dog, Max. Ray enjoyed talking to people and no matter where he went, he always came across someone he knew, or, who knew him. He offered a helping hand to anyone in need, whether it was family, friend, or, a neighbor. He was respected, loved by many, and will be greatly missed.
