

GANT, RENA, age 39, of Birmingham, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2011. She was preceded in death by her father, Harry LaRue; and brothers, Ricardo and LaQuinn LaRue. She is survived by her husband, Tom Gant; son, David Michael Gant; mother, Janet LaRue; brother, Michael LaRue; sisters, Verano and Jacqueline LaRue; in-laws, Jackie and Sharon Gant; several nieces and nephews, and her dog, Charlie. Rena attended Baptist Christian School for 12 years in Cleveland, OH and went to LeTourneau University in Longview, TX. She worked at Energen Corporation and was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and attended the Church of the Highlands. Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel from 5-7 PM. Funeral services will take place at Highlands United Methodist Church on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 with visitation 10-11 and service beginning at 11. Rena had a love for travel, spending her high school senior year in Australia, making mission trips to Mexico, and spending summers abroad in Israel. She was a loyal friend and surrounded herself with strong women who cared deeply for her. Rena poured her whole self into being a devoted mother to her 3 year old son, David. Her love for her son was a beautiful thing to witness. Rena was a woman of deep faith and her love for Jesus guided her and provided strength to the end of her life. Burial will be handled by Maher and Melbourne Funeral Home at Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beloved Peace Enrichment Program at Highlands Child Development Center in Rena's honor. Check can be made payable to HCDC.
