While serving as an assistant superintendent for Richardson Construction Company he attended night classes to become a journeyman carpenter. He spent the remainder of his career in construction, serving as a construction superintendent with Harbert Construction and B.L. Harbert International for many years. He was known for his strong work ethic, steady leadership, and dedication to building things that last.

Throughout his life, he loved fishing, quail hunting, sporting clays, raising cows, and spending time at the lake. But more than anything, he cherished time with his family—especially his grandbabies—and was always ready to lend a hand to neighbors and friends in his community.
