Richard M. Murdock, Sr. of Birmingham, Alabama was born in Sherman, Mississippi as a twin on January 30, 1936 and passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at the age of 84. He was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was very much loved and will be greatly missed. He always put the needs of others before his own and would do anything to help anyone, family or a friend. Mr. Murdock was a former employee of Wonder Bread, Murray Cookie Company, Liberty National Insurance, before retiring from Sentry Insurance Company. A well-loved, Godly Servant, he loved to make people laugh and always put others first. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Chalkville, and a mason for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Ann Smith Murdock and his second wife, Doris McDonald Murdock; parents, Eugene Quinton Murdock and Estus Ophelia Rackley Murdock; his son, Richard M. Murdock, Jr; and brother, Robert E. Murdock. Mr. Murdock is survived by his son, William Jeffrey Murdock (Debbie); daughter-in-law, Kathy Murdock; sons, Wayne McDonald (Brenda), Joe McDonald (Dawne), and Bill Randall; Grandchildren, Amy Murdock Carpenter (Trevor), Kelli Murdock Sylestine (Jakan), Amanda Wilson (Marcus), Claire McDonald McMillan (Graham), Meredith McDonald, and Naomi McDonald (Kurt); great grandchildren, Reid Sylestine, Ryder Sylestine, Claire Carpenter, Mason Wilson, Ashton Wilson, and Alexander “Mac” McMillan.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28th at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel from 12 noon to 2PM. Chapel services will be begin at 2pm followed by burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville. The family would like to give a special thank you to Ahava of Alabaster for the loving care he received there. Wayne McDonald will be officiating services.
