

Rita Anne Saia passed away after a prolonged illness, surrounded by loved ones, on July 16, 2026. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, to Josephine and Nick Saia. Rita is a proud 1974 graduate of John Carroll Catholic High School in Birmingham, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her parents, Josephine and Nick Saia; her sister, Rosemary Saia Savage; her brothers-in-law, Joe Lorino and Sam Savage, Sr and her niece, Lisa Anne Lorino.
Most of her career was at Radiology Associates as their Business Office Administrator, where she could use her skills in organization, attention to detail, and planning to the fullest. Rita loved making things beautiful, whether it was decorating her home, planning a family dinner, or hosting a party. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching Auburn football, movies, and reading. She had a great love for the Catholic faith and attended Bible Study at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Rita also had a beautiful love for The Blessed Mother, the Rosary, and the angels. She was a member of The Italian American Heritage Society, and celebrating her Italian culture through food and music was one of her favorite pastimes.
Rita is survived by her loving sister Marie Saia Lorino, who was by her side throughout her illness; nephew Sam Savage, Jr. of Encinitas, CA, nieces Joanne Savage Truitt (Tony) and Tina Lorino Kunze; great-nieces Megan Oswalt (Lane) and Elizabeth Anderson (Carter) of McKinney, TX, great-nephews Zachary Truitt and Vincent Truitt; great-great-nephews Brookes Oswalt, and Hudson Anderson and great-great-niece Amelia Oswalt.
Rita’s family would like to extend grateful appreciation to her many cousins and friends, especially the ladies of the “Lunch Bunch,” for their continuous love and support during her illness and always. Also, to the kind and caring staff of nurses and therapists at Aspire Physical Recovery Center at Cahaba River.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Rita’s life on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, 2061 Patton Chapel Road, Hoover, Alabama 35226. Visitation will be held at 11:30 am, followed by Mass at 12:30 pm. A graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery will follow.
