Robert Haggard was born on December 5, 1935 to Justice Bennet Haggard and Jesse Haggard. He was raised in Greensboro, AL and attended Greensboro Public Schools, graduating from Greensboro High School in 1953. After finishing high school, he attended Howard College, where he played baseball and basketball. This where he met his wife of sixty-three years, Elaine Heath. They were blessed with three boys, Rusty, Mike, and Greg. Bob was a wonderful husband, dad, and "papa" to three grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
Bob's coaching positions included Maplesville, Jones Valley, West End in Birmingham, and Haleyville High Schools. He later became the principal of Deshler High School in Tuscumbia, AL. After retiring in Alabama, he became the principal of Tishomingo Magnet School in Iuka, MS.
Bob loved his profession and the boys that he coached. He loved getting together with them and reminiscing about the "glory days". He was so proud of the men they became.
He was faithful to the Lord and to his church and a member of First Baptist Church in Hartselle.
He was preceded in death by his son, Rusty, who died at the age of six. This was a great tragedy in his life. Also, his mother and father; one sister, Ruby Duncan, and four brothers, Oliver, Vernon, Daniel, and Ralph.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; his two sons, Mike and Greg; and his three grandchildren, Heath (Rebecca) Haggard, Haley Haggard, and Hannah Walker; a sister, Mildred Watkins; sister and brother-in-law, Geri and Dewey Kyle; and many nieces and nephews who were dear to him.
Much appreciation is given to Dr. Ray Watts and Stephanie Guthrie at UAB Neurology; Dr. Drake Williams of Seale Harris Clinic; and Dr. McDonald and Dr. Nauvari at UAB Oncology. Also, caregiver, Kathy Proffit. In lieu of flowers, any donations may be made to Big Oak Ranch, St. Jude's Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
