

Robert E. Marcus, Sr., age 85, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026. Born on December 16, 1940, in Thorsby, Alabama, Robert lived a life filled with love, faith, and dedication to his family and community.
Robert was the beloved husband of Pearl Ann Marcus, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on faith and family. He is also survived by his son, Robert "Bobby" Marcus, Jr., and his daughter Loraine Pontbriand and her husband Glen. He was predeceased by his parents, Leonard Joshua Marcus, Sr., and Amy Lurona Marcus.
A man of deep faith and devotion to the Lord, Robert attended Glen Iris Baptist Church in Birmingham since Mother’s Day weekend in 1982. His contributions to the church were numerous and heartfelt. He served as an usher and drove the church bus for many years. His dedication extended even further as he laid carpet throughout the church building—on floors and walls alike—leaving a lasting mark on a place that meant so much to him.
Robert found joy in serving others as a special needs bus driver for over 40 years. He loved sharing stories from his bus routes with his family, bringing laughter and warmth into their lives. His compassion for others was evident in every aspect of his work and personal life.
An avid fisherman and sports enthusiast, Robert cherished time spent outdoors casting a line or cheering on Alabama Roll Tide football and the Atlanta Braves. He also had a passion for singing and found great happiness in music. Above all else, Robert loved his family deeply and treasured every moment spent with them.
Robert’s sense of humor and kind heart left an indelible impression on everyone who knew him. He loved to laugh and brought joy to those around him through his generosity and willingness to help others whenever needed.
In honoring his memory, may we all strive to emulate his unwavering faith, love for family, and commitment to serving others.
