

Dr. Robert “Bob” May, 98, of Birmingham, AL, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Born in Camberg, Germany, his idyllic childhood was shattered when the Nazis came to power. His family was one of the lucky ones, able to escape intact, arriving in New Orleans in 1940 when Bob was 14 years old. He attended Tulane University and LSU Medical School before being drafted into the US Air Force during the Korean War, serving at Eglin Air Force Base as a medical doctor. Dr. May practiced Ob-Gyn for 42 years, almost exclusively in Birmingham. He served as Associate Clinical Professor of Ob-Gyn at Alabama from 1975-1997, Chief of Ob-Gyn at Baptist Montclair from 1980-1986, and President of their Medical Staff from 1984-1986. He was predeceased by his parents, Flora and Hermann May, and by his brothers, Paul D. May and Martin M. May. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Anita Wynne May; children, Harvey (Cindy) May, Ann (Gary) Mollengarden, Julie May (Jan Roycroft); grandchildren, Erin Broday, Alison (Terry) Kirkley, Jason (Amy) Mollengarden, Kevin (Casey) Broday, Jori May (Louis Mendez), Jamie Broday (Puja Dalal), Daniel Mollengarden (Liang Liu), Zachary Mollengarden; 9 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Sunday, January 12, 10:30 am at Elmwood Cemetery.
