Rose graduated from St. John’s Catholic High School and from the University of Alabama with a degree in Home Economics. She worked for a bank in Tuscaloosa until marrying John E. Peteet, Jr. in 1951 and moving to Birmingham after their honeymoon in New Orleans. Rose was a beautiful seamstress. Rose custom made women’s dresses, suits, and even a wedding dress. Her shop was her sewing machine on a tiny table in their very small apartment. Her patience and love of sewing truly showed in the finished garment. In addition to sewing, Rose was an excellent cook and loved to garden. She was a devout Catholic with a strong relationship with God. She was very involved in Our Lady of Peace Sodality guild at Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
Rose was a wonderful and sweet wife, mother, and grandmother with endless patience and always giving of herself. Her ability to laugh and find the silver lining in any situation was remarkable. All those who knew Rose would agree that she was definitely a saint on earth. What an example of love. While she will be missed greatly, we can be at peace knowing that she is in God’s embrace. With such fond memories and a wonderful example of unceasing love and caring, Rose will always be in our hearts throughout our lives.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Fritz and Frances Harvey and her husband, John E. Peteet, Jr. She is survived by her children, Sam Peteet, Susan P. Desforges (Al Desforges), Robbie Peteet; grandchild, Marty Elaine Desforges Munger (Ben Munger).
A Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church at 1730 Oxmoor Road in Homewood, Alabama 35209.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church/School or an animal shelter of your choice. Our Lady of Sorrows, 205-871-8121.
