Roy Mason Deerman, age 99 of Hoover passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018. He was a member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church and formerly of West End United Methodist Church. Roy was born in Jonesboro AL and graduated from West End High School. He was married to Louise Green Deerman for 75 years until her passing in 2016. Roy served as a CB in the US Navy during World War II in the 130th Battalion and he received a Presidential Citation in recognition of his service in Okinawa. Roy and his late wife Louise owned and operated Deerman Plumbing and Heating. He served as President of the Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors for Jefferson County and later the State of Alabama. They were very instrumental in building much of Birmingham and the surrounding areas. He and Louise actively served with Urban Ministries, Church Outreach and Habitat for Humanity. Survivors include his daughter, Roye Annette Deerman Flowers; granddaughter, Danielle Flowers Buchanan (Matthew); great grandchildren: Aurora, Bettye Katheryne and Ellison; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 24, 2018 in the Chapel at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home and from 10:00 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America or Urban Ministries. The family would like to thank Affinity Hospice and all of his caregivers for their kindness and compassion.
