Ruby Tollett Barnard took her first step into Heaven and was joyfully greeted by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on the morning of Wednesday, June 25, 2025. Her life was a testament to faith, devotion, and unwavering love.
Born on December 16, 1935, and raised in the ACIPCO Community in Birmingham, Ruby was the youngest of three sisters. From an early age, she understood the value of living by high standards—standards she upheld with quiet strength and dignity throughout her life. She attended Eagan Elementary School at ACIPCO and graduated with honors from Phillips High School, where she was inducted into the National Honor Society. Ruby excelled academically and thrived socially, forming friendships that would endure more than eight decades.
One such friendship led her to the love of her life. A dear friend, introduced her to Aubrey Barnard—a bright, driven, and dashing young man whose character matched Ruby’s own high ideals. The two built a beautiful life together, bound by love, abiding companionship built on shared faith, and unshakable commitment for 67 wonderful years.
Ruby was the devoted mother of David and Carol, raising them with Christ-centered principles and an unwavering moral compass. She taught by example—emphasizing quality over quantity, the importance of doing what’s right, the value of true friendship, and the joy found in caring for others.
A faithful, loyal, honest, and generous soul, Ruby was deeply devoted to her family and her community. She was a dedicated member of Grace United Methodist, McElwain Baptist, and Meadow Brook Baptist Church. Her faith was not only professed but lived out through quiet acts of kindness and steadfast involvement in her church communities. She was an active member in the volunteer auxiliary for Baptist Montclair and Trinity Medical Center. Those who knew Ruby remember her as a woman of grace, sincerity, and unwavering integrity. Her home was a sanctuary, her friendship a gift, and her presence a steady source of strength. Her love left an indelible mark on all who were privileged to know her.
Ruby’s legacy of faith, love, and excellence will continue to inspire her family, her friends, and generations to come.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents John Edward and Viola Tollett, her sisters Laverne Houston and Annis Whitlow, and her husband Aubrey Dee Barnard, Jr. She is survived by a son, David A. Barnard (Melissa); a daughter, Carol B. Moultrie (Phillip); and four grandchildren, Garrick Moultrie (Morgan), Elizabeth Moultrie, Catherine Nelson (Drake), and Josh Barnard.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 27th, 10:00 AM at Meadowbrook Baptist Church, followed by a brief service of worship and celebration of Ruby’s life. If desired, in lieu of flowers, please direct a memorial donation to Meadowbrook Baptist Church at 4984 Meadow Brook Road, Birmingham, AL 35242 or Big Oak Ranch, 6000 Shelley Drive, Springville AL 35146.
