

Ruby Jestine Yacko passed away at her home peacefully in the presence of family and friends. She had a fulfilling life raising her three boys along with her husband, John J. Yacko. Ruby spent her life helping people and friends. Whenever she saw a need in someone’s life, she was there to help them, in good times or in bad. Ruby was born to Amos L. Jordan and Amy Estell Pearson in 1924. Ruby was born in Birmingham, Alabama where she attended Shades Cahaba School with her sister Leila Simms and her brother Virgil Jordan. John Yacko and Ruby were married on June 1, 1946 and began their life together raising three boys, Vince Yacko, Phil Yacko and Paul Yacko. The Yacko family were members of Our Lady of Sorrow Catholic Church where the boys attended school playing sports while learning and developing in the ways of the Lord. While raising her family she also worked for Southern Living as a manager for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband John Yacko and her son Vincent Yacko (Carol). She is survived by her sons Phil and Paul Yacko, grandson Rylan Yacko and host of nieces nephews and cousins. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2015 at Elmwood Chapel Funeral home with visitation at 10:00 AM and services following at Elmwood Chapel at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Our Lady of Sorrow Catholic Church.
