Rusann Hunter

Rusann Hunter, age 68, was born on April 2, 1958 and entered into eternal rest on July 25, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, compassion, creativity, and unconditional love for her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Jony Hunter and Dollie Susan Hunter, whose love and guidance helped shape the remarkable woman she became.

Rusann's greatest joy was her family. She is lovingly survived by her sons, David Matthew Sammons (Jessica), Cecil Wesley Sammons III, JD Sammons, and Jacob Hunter (Tiffany). She was an immensely proud grandmother to Rheanna, Gabrielle, Cecil IV, Christopher, Abigail, David Jr., Logan, Linken, and Lakota, and cherished every moment spent with them. Her heart grew even fuller with the arrival of her great-grandson, Gabriel.

She also leaves behind her devoted sisters, Rita Christlieb (Ronald) and Debbie Kumar (Sandeep); her cherished nieces and nephews, Karmen, Ryan (Mary), Diana, and Ameil; her beloved great-uncle, Tony Hunter (Dollie Mae); and many treasured cousins, including Frankie, Joan, and Jr., along with countless extended family members and dear friends who will forever remember her warmth and generous spirit.

Born in Tompkinsville, Kentucky, Rusann answered the call to serve her country with honor by enlisting in the United States Air Force. She proudly dedicated twenty years of faithful military service, including serving in Saudi Arabia during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Following her retirement from active duty, she continued caring for others as a civilian nurse at Cannon Air Force Base, extending her lifelong commitment to service and compassion.

Rusann possessed a remarkable artistic gift, creating beautiful nature scenes that reflected her appreciation for God's creation. She found joy in crocheting, collecting unique treasures, traveling, and spending weekends exploring auctions in search of hidden gems. An avid learner with an endless curiosity, she delighted in discovering random facts and sharing them with those around her.

Her love extended far beyond people. Rusann had a tender heart for animals, never turning away a creature in need, and she had a special fondness for plants—especially her numerous cacti, which flourished under her devoted care.

Perhaps what will be remembered most was Rusann's extraordinary kindness. She truly never met a stranger. Whether offering a helping hand, a listening ear, or a heartfelt laugh, she had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Her generous spirit, infectious smile, and unwavering compassion left an unforgettable impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Rusann lived a life defined by service, creativity, curiosity, and love. She loved deeply, gave freely, and inspired countless lives through her example. Though her presence will be profoundly missed, her legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.

Her legacy will live on through the numerous people who received a Legacy of Hope through her organ and tissue donations.

A memorial service celebrating Rusann's life will be announced at a later date.
