
PHILLIPS, RUTH "ELAINE" AUTRY Ruth (Elaine) Autry Phillips died June 14th in Le Roy, Illinois. Her visitation will be Saturday, June 18th at 2:00pm with chapel service at 3:00pm at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Her nephew, David Henderson, will officiate. The Elmwood Chapel is in charge of her arrangements and she will be buried next to her mother. Ruth was born November 28, 1923 in Shreveport, Louisiana and as a child settled in the West End of Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated from Jackson Elementary School and From West End High School in 1942. Ruth worked for the Gulf Oil Corporation early in her life and retired from Consolidated Pipe & Supply Company. She was an active member of Berney Points Baptist Church for over 50 years and later, a member of the First Baptist Church of Niceville, Florida and the First Baptist Church of Pelham, Alabama. She taught Sunday School and also taught Sunday School in the Birmingham Juvenile Center for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one daughter-in-law, and one great nephew. She is survived by two sons, James (the late Suzanne) Phillips, Richard (Mary) Phillips, one brother, Douglas (Jo Anne) Henderson, one sister-in-law, Jackie Henderson (the late Ray Henderson), five grandchildren, Shane (Lynn) Phillips, Bradley (Angie) Carpenter, Keith (Julie) Phillips, Dawn (Randall) Linn, Stephen (Lynn) Phillips and 7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Shane Phillips, Bradley Carpenter, Keith Phillips, Stephen Phillips, Johnny Henderson and Matt Henderson will be her pallbearers. Ruth was loved by so many people in her lifetime that it would be hard to count them all, always visiting the sick in hospitals and the infirmed in Nursing Homes. She loved Jesus and followed His example in the way she lived.
