Vacarella, Samuel Joseph, of Hoover, AL., returned to his Lord on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who will be greatly missed. He attended Auburn University, served in the US Army in WWII, and retired from The Quaker Oats Company after a long career. He was a long time member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 635, where he proudly served for many years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Lena Milazzo Vacarella, four brothers, Santo, Ross, Anthony, and Joseph Vacarella, loving wife, Josephine Pilleteri Vacarella, and his son, Sam Vacarella III. He is survived by his sister, Sarah Vacarella Mangina, daughter-in-law, Patsy Vacarella, sons, Charles (Vicki), Chris (Debra), of Birmingham, and Tommy (Ann) of Alpharetta, GA., nine grandchildren, and five great- grandchildren. Visitation will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Saturday, January 25, at 9:00 AM, followed by Mass at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donation by made to St. Peter’s Catholic Church Building Fund.
