S. Emmett Parker, age 85, passed away at DCH on January 28th. Dr. Parker was Professor Emeritus of French at the University of Alabama, where he served twice as Chair of the Modern Languages Department. He was also a Korean War veteran. In addition to his grounding in history and languages, he was an accomplished actor who appeared in productions both in Tuscaloosa and elsewhere. His expertise as a chef was greatly admired and enjoyed by family and friends.
He is survived by Alice Parker; son, Emmett L. Parker (Lorrie Maples Parker); daughter Sylvia A. Parker (Lars Espensen); brother, Donald Parker (Roslyn Parker); grandchildren, Ella Katherine and Harrison Parker; nephew Jesse Parker and niece Frieda Parker.
The family will receive friends at Elmwood Chapel on Sunday, February 2, 2015 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM with Chapel Service to begin at 2:00 PM. A memorial service will be held in Tuscaloosa, date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made to Heifer International in his memory.
