In 1959, Sara and her husband Harold relocated to Birmingham (Center Point), where they raised their family and built a life grounded in faith, love, and community. After a tornado destroyed their home in 2012, they moved to Chelsea to be closer to family.
Sara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Harold Lee Ricks; her parents, Issac Clyde Treadwell and Bertha Ray Treadwell; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Inez Treadwell and Edward and Roberta Treadwell.
She is survived by her devoted son, Brian Wesley Ricks, and his loving wife Sheila Hardee Ricks; her cherished grandchildren, Megan Amanda Ricks and Sean Patrick Ricks and his wife Kristina Lauren Ricks; and her adored great-grandchildren, Samuel Weston Ricks, Savannah Lauren Ricks, Elanora Rosalie Ricks, and Mable Leeann Ricks. She also leaves behind several loving nieces and nephews in Georgia.
A lifelong woman of faith, Sara was a devoted member of Union United Methodist Church in Stockbridge, Aldersgate United Methodist in Atlanta, and First United Methodist Church of Center Point, where she served in the children’s department for many years. After moving to Chelsea, she joined Asbury United Methodist Church.
Sara’s greatest joy was her family. She spent her life caring for them, always present when someone was in need. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, filled with the comforting aromas of her beloved cooking. Whether it was a perfectly baked cobbler or cake, homemade cornbread, or Sunday dinners shared around the table, her meals were an expression of love and brought generations together.
She found peace in her garden, growing flowers and plants with care and joy. In her later years, she learned to swim and stayed active through walking—choices that helped her live a long, healthy life. She lived with quiet discipline, compassion, and grace. To her family, she was almost saint-like—gentle, steady, and always giving.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her endless joy, and her love for them was deep and enduring. She will be missed beyond words.
