Sara was a lifelong educator within the high school system; where she taught regular, remedial, and advanced high school classes. Following her retirement, she and her husband moved to Galleria Woods where she became the editor of the retirement community internal newsletter. She was also a member of the Bridge Club and an Ambassador at Galleria Woods. She was a proud member of the Dance Club of the Knights of Columbus.
Sara married her husband Hamp on November 20, 1954 in Birmingham, Alabama. They would go on to have 3 sons, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. She loved her family and friends dearly. She made a personal goal to spend quality time with all that she could. Another goal that Sara achieved in her later years was to read her Bible from start to finish. She was very proud to add this to the list of her numerous accomplishments.
The family would like to express their thanks to the hospital staff, nurses, and doctors at UAB Medical West Hospital for their kindness, compassion, and going above and beyond in their care of Mrs. Schauer. We would also like to express thanks to the entire administration and staff of Galleria Woods. They quickly made this her proud home upon arrival and for the years following through their extra special care of all residents.
