

Sarah Whitman Housh passed away June 15, 2021, in Birmingham, Alabama. She was born on May 8, 1939 to Floy Ethel and James Loyce Whitman in Dothan, Alabama. She moved to Mobile, Alabama as a child and remained through high school. Sarah grew up playing the piano and singing in the choir at Dauphin Way Baptist Church. She proudly attended Murphy High School, graduating in 1957. She later attended Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham, Alabama, where she was a member of the A Cappella Choir. After attending Howard College, she moved back home to Mobile where she met her husband, Bill. They married on July 11, 1964 and over the course of their 56 year marriage they lived primarily in Birmingham, with short time in Anniston, Alabama and DeRidder, Louisiana. Sarah later graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a degree in Education thereafter teaching for over twenty years in the Birmingham City School system. Her final years were spent teaching fourth and fifth graders at North Roebuck Elementary.
Sarah is a member of Deerfoot Baptist Church where she had been previously active in the choir and the Friendship Sunday School class, enjoying many gatherings and trips with this special group of people.
Sarah is survived by her husband Bill, her daughters, Kathryn Housh Shirley (Brian) of DeRidder, Louisiana and Jennifer Housh Ramsey (Matt) of Sykesville, Maryland; grandchildren, Madeleine Denechaud Ramsey of Richmond, Virginia and Colton Whitman Ramsey of Kings Point, New York; beloved niece, Lisa Ann Whitman of Birmingham, AL; niece Teresa Neumann (Jon) of Scottsdale, AZ; nephews Tom Davis (Mary) of Pawley’s Island, SC; David Housh (Shirley) of Phoenix, AZ, Wes Housh (Jonne) of Phoenix, AZ, Eric Housh (Melonie) of Pell City, AL and Ross Housh of Talladega, AL.
She was preceded in death by her parents Floy and James L. Whitman, brothers Hugh L. Whitman and James B. Whitman.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Ridout’s in Trussville, Alabama followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 PM.
