Shelley Johnson Cushman, age 79, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. Shelley was born June 8, 1942 in Mount Vernon, NY. David Joseph Cushman passed away December 3, 2015. He was born September 23, 1941 in Lynn, MA.
Shelley attended a one room elementary school where she was allowed to skip the 2nd grade. She graduated from Montpelier High School in 1959. She attended the University of Vermont in Burlington and graduated in 1963. She was formerly a resident of Danvers, MA. She was a staff instructor at New England Bell, where she retired. Shelley and her husband David moved to Sarasota, FL after retirement. Dave graduated from Lynn High School in 1958. David was an Insurance Adjuster in Lynn, MA where he retired. They were married in Northfield, VT on July 8, 1967.
She is preceded in death by her husband David Joseph Cushman in 2015, who will be buried with her on June 26th. They were preceded in death by their parents, Ole William Johnson and Mabelle Virginia Ferris and Michael S. Cushman and Margaret E. Russell; her brother, Robert M. Johnson, and her sister in-law, Mary Richardson Johnson. Shelley is survived by her brother, Thomas Morley Johnson (Ethel Katherine Johnson-deceased); nieces and nephews: Kimberly Barret Duchock (John), Jennifer Jay Gamble (David), William Ole Johnson (Terri), Judith Ann McLaughlin (Doug), Cynthia Stolzer Blackstone (Paul), Laura Stolzer Bettis (David), Donald Ray Stroud (Leigh Anne), Eva Stroud Myatt (Charlie), and Kimberlee Rosann Bagos (Albert); sister in-law, Virginia Hanggi Johnson (Bob-deceased).
A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on June 26, 2022 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in their memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
