It is with sadness, but also great joy, that we announce the passing of Shirley Eberhart Sims, who peacefully went to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on May 5th, 2025.
Shirley was born on December 8th, 1932 in Atlanta, GA to Shirley Copeland Eberhart and Samuel Eberhart, both of whom have preceded her in death. Shirley grew up in Birmingham, AL before attending Auburn University. She met her husband, Robert Alan Sims, Sr. in 1961 at Woodley Country Club in Montgomery, AL. They married on October 30,1961 in Wetumpka, AL and lived in Springfield, OH and Mountain Brook, AL before relocating to Hoover, AL in 1969 where they settled and created a home for the past 56 years.
Shirley held many roles throughout her life as a daughter, friend, realtor, golfer, model, and even pilot. However, it was her role as a wife to Alan Sr. and mother to son, Alan, and daughter, Emily, that filled her heart with purpose and delight.
Shirley was known for her bright eyes, cheerful laughter, quick wit, and tenacious spirit. She loved singing, reading books and the Scriptures, gardening and watching nature. Shirley never met a stranger and could easily and warmly connect with others. She is survived by her loving husband, Alan Sr., two children (Alan and Emily), and their spouses (Jennifer Sims and Jason Keene). Although she will be dearly missed, we take great comfort in knowing she is with the Lord, and that our time apart will be brief.
A small ceremony celebrating Shirley’s life will take place on Wednesday, May 14th, 2025 at 10:00 AM, at Elmwood Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome to attend. If you wish to join the family in procession to the cemetery, please meet in front of the funeral home at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Samaritan’s Purse.
"Yet I remember this, and therefore I hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 'The Lord is my portion,' says my soul, 'therefore I will wait for him.' Lamentations 3:21-24 LSV
