Thomas Wilbur Smith, age 97 of Hoover passed away September 5, 2013. He was in the grocery business for most of his life and later built and operated a mobile home park. Mr. Smith was a member of Meadow Brook Baptist Church, Hoover and former member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, Cropwell, and Union Baptist Church, Lipscomb. He was a member of Gideons International. Preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Willie Lee Smith and granddaughter Vicki Lynn Hill. Survivors include daughters; Joyce Hill (Tommy) of Hoover and Elizabeth Mooney (Richard) of Pelham, a sister Marie Farley (Charles) of Leeds, granddaughters; Rhonda Jenkins (Greg), Sheri Byler (Scott), Ginger Knight (Tim), and Angie Miller (Steve); eight great grandchildren, all of Hoover. His service will be held at 2PM, Sunday, September 8th at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Dewey Mayfield will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at 1PM until service time at the funeral home. Special thanks to staff at Ridgeview Assisted Living for their compassionate care.
