

Thomas Russell Sullivan, 75 went to be with his Lord on Friday, April 12, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hattie and Frank Sullivan, grandparents: Susie Riddle and Ernie Martin. Thomas centered his life around his family, church and his community. He was a long time member and Lay Leader of Low Gap United Methodist Church. A native of Woodlawn, Tommy attended Kennedy Elementary and graduated from Woodlawn High School. Mr. Sullivan served his community as a Fire Fighter for the City of Birmingham for 27 years, and acted as a Vice President of Fire Fighter Local 117. He also a Fire Fighter for the City of Irondale for ten years until he was forced to retire due to health reasons. Tommy was a member of East Lake Elks Lodge, Woodlawn Masonic Lodge and a Boy Scout Leader for Troup 14. He enjoyed acting as Santa Claus for the City of Irondale and local Nursing homes. Tommy was an avid outdoorsman who belonged to the Po Folks Hunting Club. He is survived by Barbara Sullivan, his loving wife of 51 years, two sons, Jimmy (Laura) Svatley, Stanley (Sandra) Sullivan, Grandson, Michael Sullivan, one uncle, Howard (Margaret) Martin, one sister-in-law, Shyrl (Chuck)Crisan. Funeral services will be 2:00, on Monday from Ridout’s Trussville Chapel with burial in Low Gap Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00p.m. at the funeral home.
