CSM (Retired) Tommy J. Hopper of Leeds, Alabama, passed away May 28, 2019. He grew up in Midfield, Alabama, where he graduated from Jones Valley High School. In 1969, Tommy joined the Alabama Army National Guard and rose to the rank of Command Sergeant Major. He retired after serving over forty years. He was a member of the Church of the Highlands and attended the Grants Mill campus. Tommy was predeceased by his parents Billy Joe and Geraldine Hopper as well as two granddogs, Dixie and Kati. His many interests included anything involving the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, especially football; golf, hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities. He loved spending time with family and friends. Tommy was considered a best friend by many. He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Connie Little Hopper; sons Lane Thomas Hopper (Missy); Lee Bryant Hopper (Jami); two granddaughters Morgan Rena’ and Avery Minette Hopper. He is also survived by his brother, Benny Hopper (Judy); three granddogs Jack, Charli, and Sally as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home on May 30, 2019. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and service at 11:00 AM, graveside service will follow. Pastor Steve Blair with the Church of the Highlands will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Tommy Hopper.
