Ulrike Pappadakis Green

Ulrike Ida Green, age 78, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026. Born on November 19, 1947, in Freising, Germany, Ulrike was the beloved daughter of the late Rosa Klebl Pappadakis and Constantine John “Pappy” Pappadakis. She became a proud citizen of the United States on November 7, 1962, embracing the opportunities of her adopted home while carrying with her the resilience and spirit that defined her life.

After graduating from high school, Ulrike pursued her love of science by studying Biology at Jefferson Davis Community College in Gulfport, Mississippi, and later at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama. She was an entrepreneur with a heart for children, owning and operating Small Steps, Inc. Daycare for 15 years. Through her business, she nurtured countless young lives and created a place where children were loved, encouraged, and cared for. She was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

On June 6, 1969, Ulrike married John Green in Shalimar, Florida. Together they welcomed five children who would become the greatest joy and accomplishment of her life. Though the marriage ended in divorce in 1989, the family they built together remained her proudest legacy.

Ulrike embraced life with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a wonderful sense of humor. She had a playful spirit and delighted in teasing those she loved, always appreciating good slapstick comedy and laughter. She believed that life was meant to be enjoyed and often reminded others that you don’t need a reason to be happy—you simply choose happiness. She lived boldly, often without worrying about consequences, preferring to chase joy wherever she found it.

Her interests were as colorful as her personality. She was a devoted LSU football fan and loved trips to the movie theater. Her musical tastes spanned generations—from The Beatles and Elvis Presley to BTS—proving she was always open to discovering something new. She found comfort in Korean soap opera dramas, expressed her creativity through crochet and knitting, and treasured time spent at the beach collecting seashells. New Orleans held a special place in her heart, and few things made her happier than sharing a meal at Olive Garden with family and friends.

Above all else, Ulrike’s greatest achievement was raising her five children and building a successful business through determination, love, and hard work. She taught those around her that imagination can take you places you never thought possible and that happiness can be found in life’s smallest moments. Those lessons will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Christopher Green; Hollie (Justin) White; Jay (Deanna) Green; Elena Green; and Andrew (Kayla) Green; her beloved grandchildren, Lily Green, Forrest Green, Blakely Williams, and Abby White; her siblings, Helen Clark, Patrice Yamato, and John Pappadakis; and her faithful canine companion, Sailor.

Though her earthly journey has come to an end, Ulrike leaves behind a lifetime of laughter, love, creativity, and unforgettable memories. Her free spirit, playful heart, and unwavering love for her family will continue to live on in all who had the privilege of knowing her.
