Vera Delois Martin, a loving mother, sister, and devoted servant of God, passed away peacefully on April 28, at the age of 79. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama on March 23, 1946. The first born child of Senious and Florence Martin. She grew up in a loving close-knit family. She gave her life to Christ and was baptized at a young age. Vera was a dedicated member of the church. She started teaching Sunday School in her teen years and continued to teach Sunday School often until her death. She was an ardent servant in the church, and a loving mother to Jei and supportive sister to Donald and Randy. She was an extraordinary teacher and received her Masters Degree in Education. She loved teaching and spending time with her many nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as her grandson, Elijah Love. Vera was a fashionable lady (she could work a HAT). Her unwavering faith touched the lives of countless people. One of her favorite Bible verses was the 23rd Psalm. She always shared her love of God with everyone she met. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 4pm until 7pm at Johns Ridout's Morturary - Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Avenue Southwest, Birmingham, Alabama 35211. A funeral service will be held at Sixth Avenue Baptist Church on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 11:00am. She will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery following the service.
