Wanda R. Hartley, age 88 of Birmingham, Alabama, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 9, 2012. She participated actively as a long time member at Bluff Park Methodist Church for more than sixty years. At her church, Mrs. Hartley belonged to the Roy Gilbert Fellowship Class where she established lifelong friends and served as a member of her Circle. Her beloved husband of seventy years, Hollis M. Hartley, predeceased Mrs. Hartley by less than one week. They lived in the Bluff Park community for more than sixty years. Mrs. Hartley is survived by two daughters, Karen Hartley Anderson and Sandra Hartley DeShazo both of Birmingham; six grandchildren, Laurie Michelle Anderson Niedermiller of Denver, Christopher Scott Anderson of Nashville, John Robert Anderson of Birmingham, William Clinton DeShazo II of Birmingham, Richard Reid DeShazo of Birmingham, and Mary Emily DeShazo Grier of Birmingham; one great grandson, Timothy Mason Jude; one sister, Nancy Myers of Mesa, Arizona; two nieces; and, one nephew. Survivors also include her son-in-law, Richard Lehman DeShazo of Birmingham; and, spouses of her grandchildren, Matt Niedermiller of Denver, Kyla Anderson of Nashville, Samantha Strange DeShazo of Birmingham, Courtney Patton DeShazo of Birmingham, and Edward Grier of Birmingham. In her final years, Mrs. Hartley’s precious and loving caregivers, Ms. Ivy Thomas, Ms. Bertha Robinson, Ms. Chaundra Roy, and Comfort Care Hospice served her faithfully and unselfishly until the end. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Bluff Park United Methodist Church, 733 Valley Street, Hoover, Alabama 35226. Services will be conducted at Elmwood Chapel on December 12, 2012 with visitation at 2:30 PM.
