William Joseph "Joe" Belmont, Jr., 75, passed in peace after a long battle with lung cancer, Saturday, November 14, 2020 at his home in Shelby, AL. He was born July 31, 1946, in Birmingham, AL to Billie and Bill Belmont. Joe married the love of his life, Paula, over 50 years ago in Hawaii while on R&R during Vietnam. Joe served his country as a helicopter gunner in the 101st Airborne. Getting married abroad was just the beginning of exploring the world because Paula & Joe were able to travel to six continents together. Creating a strong family dynamic while building a business, Joe & Paula are the epitome of what true love really is. Joe enjoyed fishing, boating, playing cards and reading. Joe and Paula built a successful business with their sons and are so proud of them. However, the highlight of his life was making memories with his grandchildren. Joe is survived by his wife, Paula; his sons, Joey (Mary Jo) and Johnny (Mindi); three grandsons, Jay, Luke & Jesse; one granddaughter, Rae; and one brother, Mike (Sherry). He is preceded in death by his parents. The visitation will be 6-8pm Wednesday, November 18 at Johns-Ridouts Elmwood with a private service the next day. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, Inc.

So sad to see the passing of Joe. He was such a great client and friend of mine and I enjoyed dealing with him at Big number one motorsports as much as anyone else all the years in billboards, broadcasting and in sports. May he rest in peace and one of the finest guys I think I’ve ever met. He’s spent a lot of Advertising dollars with me over the years but more importantly was our friendship that I couldn’t put a dollar figure on. Thinking of the family whom I know he loved very much. RIP my friend, you will be missed.

Joe was an important influence in our lives. A dedicated Scout Master who saw many of his boys achieve Eagle. And just a good person with a great spirit. We were just fortunate to have enjoyed the whole Belmont family. Jesse Bates
