David went to be with the Lord on November 10, 2025 at the age of 83 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
He grew up in Sylacauga, Alabama graduating from B.B. Comer High School and then Jefferson State Community College. He served in the Army Air National Guard in Montgomery and ultimately moved to Birmingham to pursue a career in computer programming. It is there where he met his wife of 58 years Cheryl Bragan Culberson.
He worked for UAB Health Information Systems for 40 years, programming the network for the entire hospital. He was a member of the Alabama High School Athletic Association and served 25 years as a football official. He spent countless Friday nights refereeing high school football games all over the state and then on Saturday mornings, he would referee dozens of Pee-wee league games.
David was a longtime member of the Magic City Bop Club. He loved music, particularly the 50’s and 60’s oldies where he could take his wife for a bop around the dance floor. He enjoyed the many trips to his favorite spot at “The Hangout” in Panama City, Florida.
No one could tell a story better than David. His mind was a vault of details from growing up in Sylacauga in the 50’s to recalling every detail of an Auburn football game to knowing every oldies song, writer, and the year it was produced.
Above all, we will remember how he loved his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Cheryl Lane Bragan Culberson, daughter, Gina Culberson Botters and husband Jim, and son, David Bragan Culberson; grandchildren, Henry Linwood Botters, Savannah Lane Botters and Jake Bradley Bragan Culberson; and numerous nieces and nephews. We are grateful for the loving care he received at St Martins In The Pines and Fairhaven Nursing Home.
