

William “Gerard” DeFrank entered into his eternal rest on March 18, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents William C. DeFrank and Virginia E. Aleshio DeFrank and grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Linda Duke DeFrank, son Matthew (Stephanie) of Charleston, SC; daughter Dawn of Savannah Ga; brothers Paul A. (Rebecca) of Tallahassee, Fl and Michael D. of Trussville; sister Regina Paulette of Tuscaloosa; grandson Christian Miller and several nieces and nephews along with a large extended family and numerous friends. Gerard was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament School, Class of 1966 and of West End High School, Class of 1970. He worked at many jobs including Liberty Supermarkets, and the Bruno’s Company Stores. However, he found his real passion in being the owner and personality of Lag’s Eatery in Homewood, from 1998 until his health deteriorated forcing its’ closure in 2009. In later years, Gerard enjoyed spending time at the Homewood Senior Center and attending Men’s Coffee at Trinity United Methodist Church-Oakmont Campus. He was also an active member of West Homewood Lion’s Club. While Gerard never met a stranger, he derived great pleasure in seeing friends all over the Birmingham area. Funeral service will be held at Johns-Ridout’s Mortuary-Elmwood Chapel located at 800 Dennison Ave. SW Birmingham, Al 35211 at 7 pm Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 6 pm till 7pm. Burial will be at Union Baptist Church located at 1547 Allen Walker Road in Grove Hill, Al. 36451, (251) 275-1245 at 12 noon on Thursday.
