Bill was born February 6, 1935, in Fairfield, Alabama to Edith Elizabeth and John Allin Hallum. As their only son, he brought them immense joy and was cherished throughout his life.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years from June 18, 1953 until March 18, 1957 and was stationed in Japan during his military service.
Following his time in the Air Force, he began a 36 year career with the United States Postal Service. After his retirement, Bill continued to stay active, working part-time with Ivan Leonard Chevrolet, where he enjoyed delivering automotive parts and staying connected with the community.
Bill loved the Lord and was a faithful servant of God throughout his life. He was a devoted church member who faithfully served in numerous capacities, including Pastor’s Council, Sunday School Secretary, and Church Clerk. He was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed and could be counted on to serve with a joyful spirit. Bill was a trusted friend and source of encouragement to his pastors and his steadfast dedication to his church left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Bill loved spending time outdoors, especially camping and creating lifelong memories with his closest friends. He enjoyed sitting around the campfire, fishing, walking his beloved pets Amber and Jacob and sharing in countless laughs with those he loved. He also had a passion for gardening and took great pride in caring for his yard. His lawn was always beautifully manicured and he seemed to have a special gift for making anything grow. As his health declined, it was especially difficult for Bill when he could no longer spend time outdoors doing what he loved the most.
Above all, Bill treasured his family, who were his greatest blessing and source of joy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mae Rose Hallum; his children, Michele Holden(Neal) Lisa Arrington (Bobby) Mark Hallum (Melanie) and Ava Hallum. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Bethany Edgeworth (Barrett) Matt Holden (Jessica) Brandon Arrington (LeeAnne) Mark Allin Hallum (Erin) Chris Hallum (Morgan) and Elijah Hallum. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Cole Edgeworth, Laura Beth Priest (Will) Leah Edgeworth, Sawyer Holden, Barrett Arrington, Ridge Hallum and Thorne Hallum. He is further survived by his nephew Casey Fannin (Andrea).
The family would like to express a heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers of Gentiva Hospice for the compassionate care, support and kindness they provided during Bill’s illness. Their dedication and comfort were a great blessing to Bill and his family during this difficult time.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
But I do not want you to be ignorant, brothern, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who sleep in Jesus.
