Born on July 11th, 1950, Zakaria built his life and home in Birmingham, Alabama, where his kindness, strength, and laughter touched the lives of all who knew him.
He is survived by his former wife Marlene Harb Shunnarah and their three loving daughters, Farrah Shunnarah Bridgmon (Kevin Bridgmon), Chanel Shunnarah, and Annette Shunnarah, who were his greatest joy and the light of his life. He is also survived by his devoted siblings, Ghazzie Shunnarah (Lulu Audi Shunnarah), Abe Shunnarah (Susan Shunnarah), and Nancy Shunnarah Omron (Sam Omron) as well as his many nieces and nephews who cherished his steady presence and unwavering love.
Zakaria was a man of deep faith, generosity, and warmth. He was a proud member of his community and had a rare gift for bringing light and laughter into every room he entered. To his family and friends, he was a source of wisdom, humor, and endless love — a man whose heart was as large as his smile.
Viewing services will be held from 9:30am- 11am with a funeral service at 11am on Wednesday, November 12th, at Holy Trinity–Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral followed by a mercy meal in the church hall. Zakaria will be laid to rest at Southern Heritage Cemetery, beside his beloved parents.
