Angie was born on March 29, 1917, in Dodd City, TX, to Stanley and Juliet Stevens. Though she spent most of her childhood with her grandmother, Bella, during the Great Depression, her school in Dodd City closed and Angie moved in with family in Durant, OK, to attend school there. After a few years of college, Angie began doing secretarial work in Dallas. She spent her single life traveling with girlfriends, and even visited Cuba. She settled down in 1944 when she married Charles Matthews. Charles was in the Army and they traveled all over the world after WWII, including Germany and Japan. Angie and Charles had three children together, Stan, Kathy and Julie. After Charles retired from the Army in 1962, they moved to Brownsville, TX, where they took over a gift imports shop. Angie did secretarial work for the shop, and she and Charles would travel to Mexico to gather goods for selling. Angie enjoyed bird watching, gardening, watching political news and visiting the beach. Angie attended the Presbyterian church.
In addition to her three children and their spouses, who survive, she has one step-grandson, Ricky. Angie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one half-sister, Peggy Carroll.
There will be no services at this time. Burial will be at a later date in Texas next to her beloved, Charles.
