

Mrs. Barbara Elizabeth Drake, of Bloomington, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, at Bloomington Hospital. Barbara was born September 30, 1931 to the late Oscar and Nellie (Johnson) Bland.
Barbara was born and raised in Bloomington where she graduated from Bloomington High School. Shortly after graduating, she met Dr. Phillip Lee Drake whom she married in 1951. Dr. and Mrs. Drake spent 66 beautiful years together and the two of them spent much of their lives together travelling the world. Barbara and Phillip spent time living in Denver, Colorado, Fairbanks, Alaska, San Bernardino, California, Sacramento, California, San Antonio, Texas, and of course Bloomington where they finally settled after Phillip’s retirement. Barbara was a dedicated member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Bloomington; she loved playing golf with her husband, watching tennis, spending time with her family, and especially loved her dog, Saber. Barbara was a very involved member of her community and was well known all around Bloomington for her beautifully sweet, gentle, and nurturing personality.
Barbara is survived by her brothers, Ronnie, Denny, and Danny Bland; her sister Donna (Bland) Fichtor, and multiple nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dr. Phillip Lee Drake; her sister, Maxine (Bland) Goen, and her brothers, Jerry Bland and Ricky Bland.
