

Barbara F. Dunn, age 79, passed away April 8, 2014. Born June 2, 1934, she was the daughter of Henry Marshall and Florence(Wickersham)Farmer. A graduate of Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis, she attended Indiana University where she was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, Sigma Alpha Iota and Delta Delta Delta. It was at I.U., after the 1953 NCAA Basketball Championship Game, that she met her husband Charles “Pete” Dunn, Jr. They were married on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1954 and celebrated 50 years of marriage in November of 2004.
Mrs. Dunn’s affiliations at I.U. include Life Member of the Alumni Association, Hoosier Hundred, Well House Society, Presidents Circle, Arbutus Society, 1820 Society and Friends of Music. She and her husband endowed the Charles H. and Barbara Dunn Professorship in Real Estate at the Kelley School of Business. She was a member of Bloomington Free Methodist Church , Friday Musicale. Psi Iota Psi, Bloomington Alumnae Chapter of Delta Delta Delta and Bloomington Hospital Foundation Heritage Society. The Centennial Garden at the Bloomington Hospital is named after Mrs. Dunn and her husband.
Twice nominated for Volunteer of the Year, Mrs. Dunn was a past president of the Boys and Girls Club Auxiliary. She spent countless hours at the then Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington teaching music and cooking classes to the boys. A Performing Arts Award is given in honor of Mrs. Dunn and her husband at the annual Boys and Girls Club Spring Banquet. Mrs. Dunn taught piano lessons for several years and gave music programs and accompanied group singing at local nursing homes for many years.
Mrs. Dunn’s interests included music, Bible study, gardening, sports reading, working jig-saw puzzles, planning “theme” parties, trying new recipes and working through her “bucket list”. Known as Granny to her family and their friends, she often received mail addressed simply to “Granny”.
Mrs. Dunn is survived by her daughters, Deborah Dixon of Western Springs, IL; Barbara Dee(Ron)Burris of Bloomington; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law W.R. and Anne Dunn of Bloomington and Jane and Don Martin of Boulder, CO; grandchildren; Barbara, David, Grant and Susan, John and Lori Dixon, Amy and Nick Zavisin, Charles and Shaina Vincent and Ronnie Burris, Jr.; great grandchildren; Molly, Maddie, Grant IV, Fletcher, Nicholas, Jack, Calvin, Jude and Breyonna, nephews; Don(Jayme)Martin II, Rob(Katie)Martin and Charlie(Stephanie)Dunn and many beloved Dunn and Farmer cousins.
Mrs. Dunn was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her son-in-law G. Grant Dixon, Jr.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 10:00 AM
in Free Methodist Church, 1121 S Lincoln St., Bloomington, IN 47401 with Pastors Les Rovenstine, Zack Martin and Mel Nead officiating.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014 in Day Funeral Home, 4150 E Third St. Bloomington, IN 47401.
Burial in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
