Carol Sue (Fraze) Blickenstaff, born in Watertown, New York, on August 20, 1943, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Jill’s House Memory Care Assisted Living. She was the daughter of Marjorie and Vernon Fraze and grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Carol attended Indiana University Bloomington, where she met her future husband, James “Jim” “Blick” Blickenstaff, at a freshman swimmers and divers gathering hosted by Margie and Doc Counselman. They married on February 26, 1966.
After graduating college, Carol and Jim moved to Glenview, IL. Carol spent her career teaching U.S. history at Northbrook Junior High School, where she was known for her warmth, humor, and genuine care for her students. She retired in 1994.
In 2019, the couple decided to return to Bloomington, where their love first bloomed, and they moved into Meadowood Senior Living. There she found joy singing with the Meadowood Choir. Carol’s hobbies included reading, bowling, and watching sports, especially basketball. She was an avid lover of animals and held her dear German Shepards close to her heart.
Some of Carol’s fondest memories were sunny days spent at Big Chapman Lake in Warsaw, IN. Also known as, “Cream Sherry” by her friends at the CB radio club, a nod to both her spirited personality and her favorite drink. She also enjoyed monthly trips back to Fort Wayne to play cards with her cherished girlfriends.
Carol will be remembered for her gentleness, kindness, quick wit, and eye for fashion. She is survived by her husband, Jim; her sister, Ruth Duebner; her brother and sister-in-law, Dwight and Martha Fraze; and her brother in laws John and Kathy Blickenstaff and Bill and Debbie Blickenstaff, as well as extended family and many friends who will hold her memory dearly.
A special thank you to the staff of Meadowood, Jill’s House, and Simplified Eldercare who provided compassionate care.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at Meadowood Senior Living. Details will be shared with family and friends.
