

Darrell graduated from North High School. He retired from Otis Elevator as a manufacturing engineer. He received his masters degree at Indiana Wesleyan University in business. He also retired from the Federal police at Crane Naval Warfare Center. He was past F.O.P. President at Crane. He taught classes through the years in criminal justice and business with Ivy Tech and Oakland City University. Darrell also worked as a reserve officer with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department. He enjoyed hapkido martial arts, bowling, baseball, basketball, coaching for Girls Inc. slow pitch softball, cars, trucks, motorcycles, amusement parks, Disney, travelling, and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Darrell is survived by his daughter Tiffany Sanford and her husband Jeffrey; his two grandchildren, Jedrek and Taylor Sanford; his father, Harold Ooley; a brother, Dana Ooley, and his wife Barb; a long-time companion, Sherry Barnett; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. J.W. Vance. Entombment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home.
