

Born February 19, 1929, near Yazd, Iran, Frank was the youngest of six children born to Bahram and Saman Shahbahrami.
Dr. Shahbahrami graduated medical school in 1958 at Pahlavi University College of Medicine in Shiraz, Iran. He immigrated to the United States where he continued his medical and surgical training. Dr. Shahbahrami completed his internship at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri 1960. He then completed general surgery residencies at Missouri Pacific Employee Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri 1961 and Crawford W. Long Memorial Hospital of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia 1963. In 1965, he finished cardio-thoracic and vascular residencies at both John Gaston Hospital at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and West Tennessee State Tuberculosis Hospital of the University of Tennessee, both in Memphis, Tennessee. He completed his surgical training upon completion of a pediatric surgical residency at LeBonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee in 1967. By 1968, he had relocated to the Bloomington, Indiana area where he continued his surgical practice until 2004.
In the course of his 35 years of medical practice in Monroe County, Dr. Shahbahrami's dedication saved the lives of thousands of patients. He was well-known, and even sought out internationally, as a highly gifted surgeon with exceptional surgical skill and integrity. He served as a mentor to several practicing surgeons throughout the years, and his skill and knowledge lives on through them today. When not operating, Frank was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who also enjoyed life, nature, gardening and painting.
Dr. Shahbahrami is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marilyn, as well as three children; daughter, Dr. Sharon Anderson of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; son, Dr. Frank Shahbahrami, Jr. (Carrie) of Bloomington, Indiana; son, Dr. Paul Shahbahrami (Jongy) of Lexington, South Carolina as well as nine grandchildren; Maggie, Frank, Paul, Sophia, Tyler, Bryce, Reid, Ava, and Bronson.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 pm on Friday, July 31, 2015 in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E Third St., with burial to follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens. Family and friends may gather prior to services on Friday from 10:00 – 12:00 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends consider a donation to their charity of choice.
