Harold Lee Pfrang, age 82, of Franklin, died Friday morning at the Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin where he resided for the last five years. Born December 5, 1928 in Freelandville, Indiana, he was the son of William and Meta (Tiek) Pfrang. He was the valedictorian of the class of 1946 from Bicknell High School and a 1950 graduate of Indiana University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in business accounting. He later received his Certified Public Accountant certification. Throughout his career, he worked for the firm of Arthur Andersen Accounting and public utility, Northern Illinois Gas Company, both in Chicago and later for Kokomo Gas Company in Kokomo, Indiana. He then moved to Indianapolis where he was with Lake Central Airlines and later with College Life/University Life Insurance Companies. In 1976, he was named the Business Manager/Treasurer of the South Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church which prompted a move to Bloomington. He retired from this position in 1991. He was a First Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps while serving in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a member of Honey Creek United Methodist Church near Greenwood, Indiana and a life member of the I.U. Alumni Association. He was a loving husband to his late wife of 55 years, Shirley (Snell) Pfrang and a loving servant to his faith in Jesus Christ. Through the years he provided loving, sound, and bountiful guidance and counsel to his family and the vast majority of friends that surrounded him on a daily basis. He was a good story teller, but loved to listen to a good story as well. Though he lived in Illinois for a short time, he captured the essence of what it is to be a true Hoosier.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Constance Pfrang, of Westfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Gary Arvin, of Bloomington; four granddaughters, Kelly Marie (Josh) Carman and Kristi (Sam) Watts; both of Indianapolis, Sarah (Scott) Lahrman, of Lafayette and Katie Arvin, of Bloomington and two great grandchildren, Brady and Alyssa Carman.
In addition to his wife, Shirley, who died June 22, 2008, he was preceded in death by one son, Keith Pfrang, on May 22, 2010, two sisters, Ethel Sampson, on March 5, 2010 and Ruth Koenig and one brother, Herb Pfrang.
