Herman E. Best, age 86, of Bloomington, passed away Saturday (8/17/19) at I.U. Health; Bloomington Hospice House. He was born August 23, 1932 in Greensburg, Indiana, the son of James H. and Bertha D. (Hendren) Best. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In June, 1956, he married Norma Jean Butz. He was retired from The Prudential Insurance Co. He enjoyed fishing, golf and "I.U." sports.
Herman is survived by his wife and their children; Cindy Axler (Mike), David Best, Dan Best and Linda Johnson (Dennis); four grandchildren, Lindsay Fowler (Grant), Jennifer Dirteater (Bryan), Bryan Axler and Madison Best and two great-grandchildren, Harper Dirteater and Kenny Fowler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Katie and brothers, Buell and Raymond Best.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Catholic Center; 1413 E. 17th St. Burial will follow in Clear Creek Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
The family requests no flowers or gifts. Donations made be made to Indiana University Health Hospice House, 2810 S. Deborah Drive; Bloomington, IN 47403 or to your favorite charity.
