Irvin was a U.S. Navy veteran having served overseas on the USS Oriskany during the Korean War. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service from where he retired in 1994. He and his wife, Ann, co-owned Ann’s Flower Patch from 1986-2002. He also delivered newspapers for the Herald-Times for many years.
He will forever be remembered for his pensive and contemplative nature, as well as his sharp wit, humor, and his warm smile.
He was a member of Liberty Church of Christ in Hendricksville.
Irvin is survived by his companion, Lorrayne Martin, of Solsberry, his son Perry K. White and his wife, Debbie, of Indianapolis; three daughters, Terri L. Johnston and husband, Wilbert, of Bloomington, Sherri A. McQueen and husband, Randall, of Solsberry and Karen J. Byers, of Bloomington, one sister, Peggy S. Bright and her husband, Mike, of Bloomington, ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Kathy, who died in infancy, his first wife, Marcia Ann (Galloway) White, his second wife, Vivian (Peterman) White and one son-in-law, Steven L. Byers.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10 at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home with grandsons, Justin Johnston and Kyle Byers, officiating. Interment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens where the Monroe Honor Guard will perform military graveside rites.
Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
