Obituary of Irwin Paul Chitwood
Irwin Paul Chitwood, age 91, of Unionville, died Monday evening at the Richland-Bean Blossom Health Care Center. Born October 19, 1921 in Bloomington, he was the son of Winfred and Leone (Young) Chitwood. He was retired from the U.S. Army Reserves where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant and was a first sergeant in active Army. He was a veteran of W.W. II where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and the Korean War. He earned a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He later became the owner and operator of the Country Boy Bait Shop on 446. He was an avid fisherman and woodworker. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Rickey and Dianne Chitwood, daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Larry Burgett, all of Unionville; six grandchildren, Winfred (Mandy) Chitwood, Christy (Mike) McKinnon, Bonnie Savage, Kelly Commons, Brady (Sara) McClary and Josh (Jessica) McClary and six great-grandchildren, Robert Richey, Peyton Chitwood, Cameron McClary, Audrey McClary, Ben McClary and Jack McClary. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Wilma Jean (Rasner) Chitwood, on March 23, 2006, one granddaughter, Robin Chitwood and two brothers, Marion and Morris Chitwood. There will be private family graveside services held at a later date. Day Funeral Home in Bloomington is in charge of arrangements.
