

Janice Irene Thomas, 85, of Bloomington, IN passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Redcrest Hospice in Bloomington, IN. She was born April 23, 1940, in Fairview, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Ben and Marietta Warkentin.
Janice was a member of Bloomington Free Methodist Church. She married her high school sweetheart, Marlin Thomas on September 15, 1961. She helped support her husband as a minister’s wife for over 25 years and lived in nine different states until moving to Bloomington where she resided for 19 years. She worked for over 25 years as a Registered Nurse before retiring. Janice loved to cook, Marlin would always say when she cooked she “was cooking for an army”, her specialty was German food. She also enjoyed playing the piano and organ, crochet, needlepoint, embroidery, genealogy, and spending time with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
Janice is survived by her daughter, Cristy S. Cornelius; her daughter-in-law, Tami Thomas; three grandchildren, Gunnar E. Cornelius, Madison Cooper and her husband Caleb, and Jordan Clendening; two great-grandchildren, Peyton Brown and Malachi Clendening; and many other beloved family members.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin E. Thomas; her son, Eugene R. Thomas, a sister, Louise “Lou” Janzen; and a nephew, Aaron Thomas.
A Private Family Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Deron Colgan.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank IU Health Hospital and Redcrest Hospice Bloomington for their exceptional kindness and care given to Janice during her final journey home.
