Joan Gavin Creech

Joan Gavin Creech, age 81, of Bloomington passed away Monday, August 26, 2013 in Golden Living Nursing Center. She was born on April 15, 1932 in Bloomington to Carl F. “Pat” and Lorena (McKinney) Gavin. She was a nurse for over 40 years, working in the Critical Care and Cardiac units of Bloomington Hospital. She retired from Bloomington Hospital in 1994 with 20 years of service. Joan later joined Dr. William Schmalz as an office nurse where she remained until 1999. She continued her nursing career as a home health care nurse until 2005 when medical issues forced her to retire. Joan graduated from Bloomington High School and completed 2 years at Indiana University, majoring in chemistry; making the Dean’s list both years. She received her nursing degree from Ivy Tech and completed numerous training seminars in cardiac and critical care nursing. Joan enjoyed gardening, quilting, reading and spending time with her family and her two Golden Retreivers; Molley and Cinnamon. Joan is survived by two daughters; Sue Ann Gilliatt of Indianapolis and Catherine Cozzolino of Pittsburgh, PA, four sons; Brian Creech, James Creech and Bruce (wife Lisa) of Bloomington and Gordon (wife Stephanie)Creech of Ellettsville. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law Diane and Robert Purcell of Bloomington, brother and sister-in-law Tim and Judy Gavin of Bloomington, nine grandchildren; Patrick and Joseph Creech of Ellettsville, Emily, Rachael, Andrew, Alexandra, Meaghan and Isabella Creech of Bloomington, Vincent Cozzolino of Pittsburgh, PA., and one great grandchild; Kayden Sympson of Bloomington. Joan was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Carl Gavin. Friends may call on Thursday, August 29, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. in Day Funeral Home 4130 E. Third St. , Bloomington, IN 47401. The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. also in the funeral home. Burial in Gilgal Cemetery.
